As you know a single batch of anti-depressant, Allegron, made by Pan Pharmaceuticals, was recalled by Aspen Pharmacare almost two weeks ago. Since that time, we have been working urgently to identify a new manufacturer and produce new supplies to minimise the impact on patients.
I am pleased to inform you that we have appointed Sigma Pharmaceuticals to manufacture Allegron. We have also been able to retrieve important equipment from Pan Pharmaceuticals allowing us to begin the manufacturing process quickly.
Our aim is to provide new supplies of Allegron 10mg tablets in six weeks to ensure a continuous supply of the medicine.
We expect to have new supplies of Allegron 25mg tablets available in two months.
There are adequate existing stocks of Allegron 10mg tablets made in Spain to meet patient needs for up to seven weeks. There are still unaffected Allegron 25mg in our warehouse and in pharmacies and wholesalers, but some stockists will run out of 25mg supplies over the next few weeks.
As there is likely to be a temporary shortage of Allegron 25mg tablets, your doctor may prescribe you Allegron 10mg in the meantime with an adjustment to the dose if necessary.
If you have a prescription for Allegron 25mg and your pharmacist has none of these tablets in stock, you should first check other pharmacists in your area for supply. Alternatively your doctor can arrange for you to obtain a supply of the 10mg tablets.
Aspen Pharmacare intends to hold emergency stocks of Allegron 25mg to be released on a compassionate basis.
Please we assured that we will continue to do everything we can to minimise inconvenience as a result of this recall and ensure you are able to continue with Allegron.
If you have any questions at all about your medication, please consult your doctor or psychiatrist.
